Become a Tenant
The Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) operates a combined waitlist for all of its voucher programs and properties. Below you will find information on our application process and eligibility guidelines to become a THA client.
THA'S WAITLIST IS CURRENTLY CLOSED. Sign up to be notified when the next waitlist opens.
Our public housing properties are funded through a project-based voucher program. In order to be selected to live at one of our properties, you must be on our waitlist. Our properties include Salishan, other family communities and seven apartment buildings for seniors and persons with disabilities. Each property is well-managed, attractive, affordable and nonsmoking. See more information and photos about these communities.
WHO CAN LIVE IN OUR COMMUNITIES
Tacoma Housing Authority's programs have maximum income limits. The total gross annual income of the household must be within these limits at the time of application and at the time of move-in, unless otherwise noted.
In addition to income, we will check the following:
Credit, Criminal and Rental History
- We will determine whether an applicant would be a good tenant and good neighbor.
- To help make this determination, we will check credit, rental and criminal history.
Citizen and immigration Status
- Citizenship or legal residency is not required for all members of the household. Only one member is required to be a resident or citizen of the United States.
Note that more people will apply than we can house at once, so applicants are placed on a waitlist. A person's place on the list will depend on the application date/time, the number of bedrooms right for the household's size, and preferences that THA has established by policy.
